The Las Vegas Wranglers fell 3-2 to the Idaho Steelheads this afternoon, ending 2012 with a 13-13-1-3 record for third place in the Pacific division.
Las Vegas scored in the first three minutes of the matinee game, on center Eric Lampe’s 12th goal of the season. The Wranglers held the 1-0 lead until 21 minutes later, when an early second period power play goal from Steelheads center Justin Dowling tied the game.
Four minutes into the third, Idaho took their first lead of the game off the stick of forward Sam Carrick. With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Wranglers right wing Sean Wiles netted the game-tying goal, but Steelheads forward David deKastrozza scored in the final 98 seconds for a 3-2 Idaho win.
The Wranglers open 2013 with the Indoor Winter Classic on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at 2:05 p.m. against the Ontario Reign. The two teams will rematch Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7:05 p.m., and then the Wranglers will play two games against the Utah Grizzlies on Jan. 5 and 6.
