Wranglers Net Fifth Straight Win

Chris Ferraro's 16th goal of the season was the game-winner.

The Las Vegas Wranglers® (23-18-4, 50 points) defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings (29-15-4, 62 points) 2-1 at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday night. Center Chris Ferraro broke a 1-1 tie just 3:48 into the third period for the Wranglers fifth straight win. Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher stopped 23 of 24 Victoria shots, improving to 5-0-1 on the year. Wranglers’ defenseman Brandon Straub scored his first goal of the season, helping Las Vegas improve to 9-10-2 on the road this season. Victoria goalie Julien Ellis took the loss, stopping 28 of 30 Las Vegas shots. With the victory, the Wranglers moved one point in front of the Stockton Thunder for second place in the Pacific Division. Las Vegas will remain in Victoria for one more game this Sunday at 5:05 PM.

Victoria scored the first goal of the game and the only goal in the opening period to take 1-0 lead. Scott Howes set up Adam Taylor with a one-timer from the right-wing circle. Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher made the initial save but, the puck trickled in behind the Wranglers goalie at 12:36 for Taylor’s second goal of the year.

In the second period, Las Vegas defenseman Brandon Straub tied the game 1-1 with his first goal of the season. Playing in his 100th career game, Straub blasted a shot from the right point past Victoria goalie Julien Ellis at 10:10.  Wranglers Captain Shawn Limpright and defenseman Mike Madill set up Straub’s fourth career goal.

In the third period, center Chris Ferraro snapped a rebound under the cross bar and past Victoria’s Julien Ellis just 3:48 into the final period.  Ferraro scored off a Kelly Czuy rebound in front of the Victoria net, giving the Wranglers a 2-1 win.
