Wranglers Sign John Schwarz; Add Goers

The Las Vegas Wranglers® announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman John Schwarz for the 2010-11 season.

Schwarz returns to Las Vegas for his second professional season.  The 26-year-old spent four years at Michigan Tech prior to joining the Wranglers.  In his first full professional season, Schwarz tallied three goals and added nine assists for 12 points, while piling up 122 penalty minutes over a span of 66 regular season games.  Schwarz also played in five postseason games for the Wranglers.

“John is a big young defenseman that came into his own in the second half of the season,” said Wranglers General Manager and Head Coach Ryan Mougenel.  “I expect John to be a thorn in the side of our opponents and to keep developing into a solid contributor for us next season.”

The 6-3, 210-pound defenseman earned 13 points and 217 penalty minutes over 126 games with Michigan Tech from 2005-06 to 2008-09. Schwarz, a Calgary native, began his career with the Wranglers in the 2008-09 season, appearing in four games for Las Vegas on an Amateur Tryout agreement and picking up one assist and eight penalty minutes.

The Wranglers also announced that they have signed defenseman Barry Goers.  Goers, 24, returns to Las Vegas after joining the team late in the 2009-10 season.  The Ivyland, PA, native appeared in six games for the Wranglers last season, scoring twice and adding an assist.  Prior to signing on with Las Vegas, the 5-9, 180 lb. blueliner accumulated five goals and 37 assists in 133 collegiate games at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
